More on security I agree totally Eddie - great post. I am sure we all sympathise with your e-gold loss.
It's impossible to get 100% internet security unless you stop using the internet. But up to date security software and firewalls certainly help a lot.
You can make your e-gold account more secure by limiting access to only your own IP, but I gather this isn't hacker proof completely. I tend to use one account for all programs, but drag the majority of my e-gold funds over into aother account that I never use for programs - this lowers the risk of an e-gold wipe-out. I also don't have any wireless connections - these can be picked up from outside your house I gather, as can most cell-phone internet transactions.
It is essential practice, of course, never to go to an e-currency or bank account via a link supplied in an e-mail. Always go from your book-marked link. Storing passwords on your computer is also not good practice unless you are using special encryption software. Keep them offline and where possible use an on-screen key-pad to enter them.
I'm sure most of you know all this, and there are other security things that I have missed, but the above has kept me safe so far. But we must never be complacent.
